2015 Honda Civic New Sport model to boost facelifted hatch range

The first images and details of a new 'sportier' Honda Civic hatch have been revealed ahead of the facelifted small car's Paris motor show debut.Due to be unveiled in both hatch and touring wagon guises, the refreshed European-spec Honda Civic range – spied testing back in June – will be joined by a new five-door Sport variant with stylistic links to the upcoming Civic Type R.Though new headlights with integrated daytime running lights, new front and rear bumpers and side skirts, LED tail-lights and a black rear spoiler will all be seen range wide, the new Civic Sport gains a unique front bumper with lower grille mesh, a colour-coded rear spoiler and 17-inch alloy wheels.

Available with either Honda’s 88kW/300Nm 1.6-litre i-DTEC turbo-diesel or its 104kW/174Nm 1.8-litre I-VTEC four-cylinder petrol, the Civic Sport will also feature a black roof liner for the cabin, above the upgraded range’s new seat fabrics, stitching highlights, chrome door handles and metallic black centre console. The 2015 Honda Civic will also premiere the brand’s all-new Honda Connect in-car infotainment system.Comprising AM/FM, DAB and internet radio, Bluetooth connectivity, internet browsing, satellite navigation and rear-view camera display, the Android-based Honda Connect system will further be accompanied by Honda’s City-Brake Active automatic low-speed braking technology.

Despite the new Sport model likely being an attractive proposition for local buyers, Honda Australia has ruled out any chance of that car being sold here. Likewise, the Civic Tourer will not make it to the brand's local showrooms.Honda Australia public relations manager Melissa Cross confirmed to CarAdvice that the brand will offer the updated Civic hatch range "in the first half of 2015", but stated the cars sold here may not mirror the specifications of the European models. Expect more information on the updated Civic hatch range in the coming months.
